From a background in occupational guidance and counseling, my career has a common thread: Helping others to learn, understand, and employ occupational-related knowledge, skills and experiences, in order to perform professionally at an optimum level both in efficiency and effectiveness, and to gain more job satisfaction.
The skills and knowledge that I’ve mastered and most enjoy using are associated with writing, editing, and producing documents, both short and long. I specialize in technical documentation, developing materials for both internal and external audiences. I produce hardware and software documentation, with extensive experience in on-line help and user-guide materials, and recent experience in product testing plans and reports. I also write articles for trade publications, provide editing services for businesses and individuals, and write and edit for websites.
My passion is helping people to be efficient and effective, with information and technology, in both their professional and personal domains.
That background launched a career of more than 20 years as a technical writer, editor, and instructional designer.
I have experience writing and editing a range of document types. They include help systems, user guides, release notes, quick-starts, installation, configuration and maintenance manuals, web content, instructional materials, academic journal articles, frequently-asked question content, software interface labeling, and marketing content.
I am known for creating clear documentation and training materials, making complex or "dry" content clear and engaging to the intended audience, and distilling technical information for clarity and ease of understanding. I get end users — engineers, developers, scientists, and consumers — on the same page.
I am experienced working onsite and remotely, as staff, contractor and freelancer, for large and small companies, in North America and Asia. Some of the most well-known firms I have served include Lockheed Martin, Hewlett Packard, Kodak, Monster.com, and the Boeing Corporation.
I'm flexible, adaptable, and pride myself on a strong work ethic.
Working to create and maintain documents and similar "word-heavy" materials can be an isolated job, but I am a team player, effectively supporting authors and other subject-matter experts to make their product or service innovations successful in internal environments or in an industry-specific or public marketplace.
